Fluorescent vs. LED Light Boxes

​Most of these units utilize LED, (light emitting diode) technology as the primary light source but we also offer traditional fluorescent lighting fixtures. 

​Electrical consumption is important factor in purchasing light box panels.  For electrical savings, CFL or LED light boxes are better than traditional T5 light boxes.  When ran 24/7/365, traditional T5/fluorescent light boxes last about 1.5 years; however, they are easy to remove.  On the other hand, LEDs are more difficult to remove since they are very thin and generally need to be returned to the factory for bulb replacement.  When ran 24/7/365, LED light boxes last about 5 years.  This makes it best for smaller light boxes.  Since larger sizes tend to be more permanent fixtures, fluorescent bulbs are more ideal.  Fluorescent bulbs tend to be brighter than the LED bulbs.  Fluorescent light boxes are the cheapest; they have the lowest initial purchase price but can easily cost more than the most expensive LED light box after 4 to 5 years of use due to bulb replacements.  Fluorescent tubes are a great lighting option for those wishing to pay less upfront. LEDs, however, provide long term savings, great performance, variable colors, and do not contain any hazardous materials. It is easy to see why so many businesses and home owners are turning to LEDs as their number one choice for lighting.

​Advantages of LED's over Fluorescent Tubes
​Long Term Cost: LED's are more expensive, but provide potential savings over the long term. This can provide substantial savings as a result of fewer replacements. Maintenance: The amount of time spent replacing bulbs, especially in larger buildings, can be counterproductive. Noise: Fluorescent tubes are notorious for being noisy, especially if they have been used for a significant amount of time.
Color: Fluorescent lights are notorious for their color profile as the produce a cold blue/white light.
Environmental Impact:  Fluorescent lights by their very nature must contain a small amount of mercury.
Instant On: LED's light up as soon as an electrical current is passed through them.
Energy Consumption: 
LED's consume far less power than fluorescent tubes.  LED's use less electricity which is better for the environment and your wallet.
​Durable: Because LED's are not made of glass and are hollow inside, they are far less fragile than both fluorescent and incandescent bulbs. It also lowers the risk of dealing with broken glass.
No Heat: While fluorescent tubes emit less heat than incandescent and halogen bulbs, they still produce much more than LED's.
